i've been amazed this last week at how much we depend on technology. without it we cease to exist. companies come to a grinding halt as their computer systems go down, retail turns away angry customers when their purchases cannot be processed as the debit and credit card machines have gone wonky, communication stalls when emails cannot be sent or cell phones are out of service. we are utterly dependant on it. and i am guilty as charged. sad things is i never realized i depended on it so much. it stores my thoughts and memories, allows me to communicate with people miles away with just the click of the send key, and organizes my life with day planners and address books. for which i'm grateful. we spend hours on the phone trying to figure out how to get our parents web cam to work only for the computer to be stolen a few weeks later... which brings me to my next point... the light bulb went on this week and i realized how easily it would be for some one to steal a laptop. no cords to unplug, just lift and walk away with all those addresses, passwords, saved thoughts and photos. and it's kinda got me worried. i always click that little check box that says "save my login name and password". it's so convenient, right? yeah, convenient for the punk that swipes you computer and now has access to everything you have ever logged into. i think i'll be unclicking those check boxes this week. although i know i cannot guarantee that i will refrain from keeping info saved on my technology, you can be sure i'll be passwording the heck out of everything.
on that note, i will leave you with a comment that is somewhat related and comes from the underwriter is me... get insurance people.

I have said it before. Our society today is too dependent on computers!! To think that you can't even buy a piece of gum if the computers in a grocery store don't work! 1) It would screw up there inventory on there COMPUTER and then they would have to take there hand held computer to all the stock to get recounts on everything 2)the person working the cash registar probably can't do math in there head, because they have a COMPUTER that thinks for them!! Man I hate COMPUTERS!! This rant brought to you by Curtis
